Services
ISD Provides:
- Adult Services - 217-479-4280 tty. Adults who need assessment services must be referred to the ISD adult program by their RCD.
- Assistive Technology Center 217-479-4241 tty. The Media Center maintains a large collection of state-of-the-art, assistive devices for the deaf.
- Audiology 217-479-4280 tty. Students who need services from an audiologist are provided on ISD campus.
- Captioned Media Program - 217-479-4241 tty. Captioned Films and Videos for the Deaf is a federally funded program at ISD which maintains over 4,000 open-captioned films and videos.
- Evaluation Center - 217-479-4274 tty. The Evaluation Center at ISD provides assessment services to identify educational and vocational needs.
- Outreach Videos - Videos are available to Illinois residents, and are narrated, interpreted, and have open captions unless otherwise indicated. The link above contains a list of available videos, as well as an order form that can be submitted online.
- Media Center - 217-479-4241 tty. The ISD Media Center serves as a link between national media service agencies and programs for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in Illinois.
- Parent-Infant Program - 217-479-4232 tty. The ISD Parent-Infant Program for children ages birth to three.
- Pre-school/Pre Kindergarten - 217-479-4255 tty. The pre-school and pre-kindergarten program individualizes instruction for children ages three to five, or above if the child is below the five year developmental level.
- Elementary School - 217-479-4255. The elementary offers schooling for 1st to 5th grade.
- Junior High School - 217-479-4252. The junior high offers education for 6th to 8th grade.
- High School - 217-479-4246. The high school programs for 9th to 12th grade.

ISVI Provides:
Educational Diagnostic Services - This is the first step in preparation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) geared to the individual student. Diagnostic evaluations for admission and for outreach services generally last two weeks.
Educational Program - Each student at ISVI has a written Individualized Education Program (IEP) which is regularly reviewed and annually evaluated. Students receive assistive technology training on software and hardware devices, including computer skills, keyboarding, self care, daily living skills, homemaking, arts and crafts, industrial arts, orientation and mobility (O&M), adaptive physical education (PE), music and constructive use of leisure time. Tactile aids and Braille are used by those who are blind or have minimal vision. A pre-vocational curriculum for secondary students emphasizes skill development and job responsibility.
Low Vision Clinic - Two annual Low Vision Clinics (sponsored by the Lions of Illinois Foundation), offer free low vision examinations, optical aids and training. The clinics are available to ISVI students and other students from all over central and southern Illinois.
Educational Resources Program - ISVI has advanced IBM compatible computer technology including a with a wide array of assistive programs and equipment. Such equipment includes various note takers, Braille embossers, screen readers, speech synthesizers, digital cameras, and scanners with laser or ink jet printers.
Library - The ISVI library maintains materials for children, young adults and adults in Braille, print/Braille, large print, regular print and on audiocassette. Additional collections include tactile aids and a professional library with extensive materials in the education, development and support of individuals with visual impairments. The library also has computers, closed-circuit televisions (CCTV's), TV & VCR tape duplication equipment, and access to the Internet available for use by students, staff and library patrons.
